I continue to be astonished at all the Vagus Nerve does, it is truely huge in keeping our bodies running. It connects the brain to the body and allows the brain to receive information on several body functions, (heart, lungs, abdomen) to mention just a few. It contributes to the autonomic nervous system, which is the sympathetic and parasympathetic. It is used medically now to treat Depression, Bipolar Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, and Alzheimers Disease just to mention a few. It can also assist in the healing of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Heart Failure, Crohns Disease, and Inflamation.
Stimulation is done in a few different ways but mostly through breathing exercises where you are slowing your 14 breaths per minute down to 5 breaths per minute moving energy up from your belly and diaphragm. Meditation is of course a main tool in aquirering this result thus influencing the ANS and strengthening your immune system, which can also lower inflammatory parameters.
I seem to think that if you can identify something happening in your body it probably has a connection to the Vagus Nerve. The amount of research out there is enormous and it is helpful to study and read how your body can be healed through activating the Vagus Nerve.
